One Piece: Oda Might Have Revealed The Identity Of The Pirate With An Eye Patch

One Piece chapter 1122 has opened the doors for quite a lot of exciting theories, and much of that is down to the fact that fans recently got to see the likes of Joy Boy and Emet in a flashback. For the very first time, Oda showed fans a proper silhouette of Joy Boy, as well as a piece of dialogue that he held with Emet, the Iron Giant.

Of course, there was very little that fans could have taken away from this, however, One Piece fans are as observant as ever and scoured through every single bit of information that Oda has revealed about this story in the past. Now, fans might just have figured out the identity of a special pirate that Oda teased way back in the story.

Oda’s Prediction About The Eyepatch Pirate In The Past

Oda Mentioned A Special Pirate Will Appear In One Piece

Oda has always wanted to write a story about pirates and that is something that fans know is no secret. Oda has made known his love for the stories of pirates, and in fact, the entire story of One Piece is centered around the journey of a pirate, Monkey D. Luffy. It isn’t a shock to know that One Piece is inspired by pirates of real life or has characters do stuff that is stereotypical of pirates. At the same time, it also isn’t a surprise that there are many stereotypical pirate designs in One Piece, but, strangely enough, there are actually not any major pirates in One Piece with an eye patch. That is not to say that Oda did not have plans to introduce such a pirate. In fact, Oda has previously spoken of one day introducing an eye-patched pirate in his story at some point later down the line. Based on his comments, this was to be in the Final Saga of One Piece, or at least towards the very end of the story. Here is what Oda had to say about this pirate with an eye patch:

A pirate with an eye patch will appear in the final phase of One Piece . I’m itching to draw that character as soon as possible. Maybe people have a preconception that many pirates wear eye patches, but actually, I’ve never drawn any pirates with eye patches.

The Tales Of Nika Originated From The Warland, Elbaf!!

Clearly, Oda has plans for introducing a character with an eye patch in the Final Saga of the story and this is something that he has always been excited about. This means that this character is somewhat significant, and special enough for Oda to save for the Final Saga of the story. At the same time, this also is a stereotypical pirate, which fans have recently seen in One Piece. This excites the fans quite a bit, and tells them that this character might already have had an introduction in One Piece chapter 1122 when fans got to see a special flashback from Emet, the Iron Giant. The pirate with an eye patch might be none other than Joy Boy.

Joy Boy’s Latest Character Design Reveal

Joy Boy Seems To Have A Peg Leg

Joy Boy’s Hand Is Mechanical

In One Piece chapter 1122, fans finally got to see their first glimpse of Joy Boy the pirate. Of course, fans have seen a silhouette of Joy Boy in Fishman Island as well, however, that silhouette is slightly different from the one fans recently saw. In a new silhouette, fans could see that Joy Boy was very similar to Luffy in terms of character design. He even sported the same coat as Luffy from Onigashima, and the same Straw Hat, although this one might’ve been significantly bigger in size. The clothes he wore were also similar to that of Luffy. However, the biggest difference between the two was Joy Boy’s lack of limbs. It was clear that one of Joy Boy’s hands was mechanical. Whether this was a hook or a robotic hand, fans do not know. It was quite hard to make it out from the angle, and the fact that it was just a silhouette.

However, what fans know for sure is that this was not a normal hand. At the same time, one of Joy Boy’s legs was a peg leg. This means that he lost one of his arms and his foot in some kind of accident that happened at an unknown time in One Piece. This fits the picture of a very stereotypical pirate that one would expect from any pirate media.

Joy Boy is now confirmed to be a pirate with a peg leg and a hook for a hand, or something similar. This would naturally lead one to believe that if there was any pirate with an eye patch, it would be Joy Boy. This is all the more interesting when one takes into consideration that all the injuries that Joy Boy has are all towards the right side of his body. His right hand appears to be missing; his right leg appears to be a peg leg, which means that his right eye could potentially be lost and covered with an eye patch.

Is Joy Boy The Pirate With The Eye Patch?

Joy Boy Could’ve Lost His Right Eye Long Ago In One Piece

As of now, fans don’t know who exactly they pirate with the eye patch is, but there is no candidate that fits this person better than Joy Boy. He’s the only person who looks too much like a typical pirate, which means that the best candidate to have an eye patch is him. Furthermore, the fact that Oda said that he is going to introduce this character in the final phase of One Piece also backs up the idea that the pirate with the eye patch is Joy Boy. It is also very interesting to note that Joyboy is the very first pirate in the history of One Piece, and for him to be like a stereotypical pirate makes absolutely perfect sense. Hopefully, fans will get to see more of Joy Boy later down the line in One Piece, and when that happens, Oda will reveal his proper character design to the fans. For now, fans don’t exactly know who the pirate with the eye patch is, but hopefully, they will find out soon enough.

You hear that? The greatest mind of the world just confirmed the One Piece is real!

As One Piece heads deeper into the Final Saga, thanks are getting more exciting by the chapter, and hopefully, Elbaf will reveal more secrets about Joy Boy and the Void Century to the fans. Eventually, the Straw Hat Pirates will make it to Final Island and find out the entire truth about the world and its history, as well as the pirate named Joy Boy. When that happens, fans will get to see everything about Joy Boy’s past, his design, his story, and how he received all these injuries as well. For now, fans simply have to sit back and wait and let Oda flesh out his story in the most emphatic way possible so that that point of revelation is reached
