Liverpool star Diogo Jota strikes a perfect volley against Sevilla at Anfield

Diogo Jota ensured that the start of the Arne Slot era continued in style with a stunning volley against Sevilla.

Liverpool made it four wins from four in pre-season under their new manager with a 4-1 victory over the LaLiga side, and Jota’s goal was certainly the pick of the bunch.

The Portuguese forward opened the scoring after 30 minutes with a stunning volley, connecting perfectly with a Trent Alexander-Arnold cross from on his weaker left foot.

And footage from the stands at Anfield capturing the incredible effort has given fans an even greater appreciation of the game’s opener.

The stunner certainly set Liverpool on their way to another hugely encouraging win, with Luis Diaz then netting in a quick-fire brace before half-time.

17-year-old Trey Nyoni wrapped up the win in the 67th-minute with a powerful volley of his own just one minute after Sevilla had pulled one back through Peque.

This pre-season has certainly whet Reds fans’ appetite for the upcoming campaign, with supporters buoyed by both their results, and the style of play under Slot.

Liverpool recorded victories over league rivals Manchester United and Arsenal in friendly matches in the US, before returning to Anfield for their curtain-raiser against Sevilla.

And Jota was quick to feed supporters’ optimism about their new boss after the game, as he he gave a glimpse into the the Dutchman’s mentality.

Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com, the 27-year-old said of the coach: “Of course, [it is] a new man on the touchline and everyone needs to adapt.

“I think we are working well, he is demanding – even with a 4-1 win he was telling us what we need to improve and do better.

“So, I think that’s the way forward. I think we have played well in this pre-season, but we all know where it counts is next week.”

With former manager Jurgen Klopp also a passionate figure on the sidelines throughout his nine years in charge of the club, fans will no doubt be pleased to hear that his successor is equally demanding of high standards from his players

Jota also reflected on his own role in the win, and admitted his goal was among the best he has ever scored.

He said: “Yeah, [it was] one of the best! I hit it properly with my left foot and it ended up being a great goal. One of my best, for sure.

“So, [I am] happy with the result, with the way we played and everybody worked out very hard today so a good step into the first game of the league next week.”

The striker will be hoping to find the back of the net many more times over the coming months, starting with Liverpool’s Premier League opener against newly-promoted Ipswich, where Slot will look to bring the good-feeling into the competitive campaign.
