The Gorosei, also known as the Five Elders, are some of the most powerful characters that fans have seen in One Piece.
The Five Elders were thought of just as political figures for the longest time by the fans. However, the Egghead Island arc flipped the script completely when they were revealed to be incredibly powerful. The Five Elders are some of the most powerful individuals in One Piece, with all sorts of powers, ranging from Haki, to unique Yokai abilities.
Above all, they also have mysterious abilities that let them recover for just about any damage they take, and, strictly speaking, their powers don’t fall in the regular Devil Fruit categories either. There is a source to the power of the Five Elders that fans are not aware of just yet and they will certainly get to see more of that later down the line in One Piece.
The Power Of The Gorosei Is Absolutely Mesmerizing
Unique Yokai Powers
All Haki Types
Immortality
The powers of the Gorosei are certainly very elaborate. They don’t possess just a single ability in One Piece. First of all, the Five Elders are known to be elaborate users of Haki. They can utilize all three types, with even advanced usage implied clearly in the Egghead Island arc. Their Haki isn’t of a basic level either. Fans know for a fact that the Gorosei possess tremendously powerful Haki. Both Jinbe and Zoro were absolutely astounded by the level of haki displayed by Marcus Mars, and similar levels were displayed by other individuals as well. In fact, in terms of what Jinbe said, the Haki drew an indirect comparison to Shanks, which just goes to show that the powers these Elders possess are absolutely sensational. That is just Haki, and fans know that their powers are not one-dimensional.
Let’s run, it is useless! These guys cannot die! – Luffy
The Five Elders possess multiple layers of powers, and quite easily the most important is the Yokai abilities that they have. Every single Elder that fans have seen in One Piece possesses a unique ability. These abilities are similar to Mythical Zoan powers, and fans have seen all the Elders transform into unique creatures. For instance, Saturn can transform into the Gyuki, Mars can transform into Itsumade, Warcury can transform into Fengxi, Nusjuro can transform into the Bakotsu, and Peter can transform into the Sandworm. All of them are incredibly powerful individuals with great abilities up their sleeves.
Fans saw a proper illustration of their abilities in the Egghead Island arc, and it’s safe to say that their powers have absolutely no limits. The Elders were strong enough to fight against individuals such as Luffy in his Gear 5, and that is a proper showing of strength, for sure. Any individual capable of holding their own against Luffy in Gear 5, and, in instances, even overpowering him, is in the Yonko tier for sure, and the Elders being able to do just that just goes to show how powerful they are.
However, the true secret of the power of the Five Elders doesn’t simply lie in the Yokai abilities that they have. Their biggest strength is the fact that they have a unique ability to regenerate from any damage that they are dealt. Even if the Elders suffer broken bones, they simply regenerate in a matter of seconds. In fact, even if their bodies are torn to shreds, they assimilate and it’s almost as if they never suffered any damage in the first place. This ability is inexplicable, and so powerful that even Luffy simply admitted that he cannot go on to defeat them since they are practically immortal. Luffy came to the conclusion that the best thing that he could do was to blow them away or simply run.
The Gorosei’s Connection To Imu
The Gorosei Might Be Linked To Imu Directly
It is also heavily implied that the Gorosei are directly connected to Imu, which might suggest that their source of power is actually none other than Imu himself. The Five Elders were specifically targeted by Emet when he unleashed a powerful bolt of Joy Boy’s Haki. When that happened, the Yokai abilities of these Elders were negated and they were pushed back to Marijoa. Even the summoning ability of Saturn was negated, which meant that he was the only one left on Egghead. Meanwhile, the one who actually suffered the damage from the Haki was none other than Imu. This was rather peculiar, and fans were very keen to note that despite not directly being hit by Joy Boy’s Haki, he suffered damage. This implies that Imu holds the key to the immortality of the Elders, and that he is the main body that needs to be taken down in order for the Elders to fall as well. Regardless of whether that is true or not, fans know that emu is the key to the abilities of the Elders.
Which light shall be erased from the world, oh great Imu! – Elders
The whole idea of Imu and Elder’s link could go in two ways. Either Imu is like a figure that needs to be taken down in order for all the other Elders to fall, or, all the other Elders have been directly granted their abilities by Imu themselves. In either case, Imu is the all-powerful. He has been theorized to be like the Mother Sea in One Piece by many fans, and if that truly is the case, then fans know for a fact that Imu would have bestowed the best of abilities to counter Devil Fruit users, and assert superiority on all as leaders of the world to his Elders. In either case, the key to defeating Elders lies with Imu and fans will most definitely get to see more of that later down the line.
As to how Haki counters their abilities, fans know for a fact that a strong enough that Haki can negate devil fruit powers. Similarly, if a Haki is powerful enough, then it should most certainly be able to negate whatever abilities Imu is utilizing as well. Whether it is an ancient piece of technology that Imu acquired from the Ancient Kingdom, or whether the elders are simply projections of Imu’s own being, just like the satellites are to Vegapunk, fans know that a powerful Haki can essentially take them down.
Fans will have to wait to get a proper answer to the question, because as things stand, the Elders and the Imu are certainly not going to be involved in any fighting in the upcoming chapters. Once the Great War begins, they are going to mobilize, and when that happens, fans will definitely get to see the secrets of the abilities that these individuals hold.
For now, fans simply have to sit back and watch Luffy progress his Haki to a point where he can actually hold his own against the Elders, and, at the same time, Imu as well.
