Happy Death Day 2U is a horror-comedy and the sequel to *Happy Death Day* (2017), directed by **Christopher Landon**.

The story picks up right where the first film left off. **Tree Gelbman** (played by **Jessica Rothe**) thinks sheโ€™s finally escaped the time loop in which she was repeatedly murdered on her birthday, only to wake up and relive the same day over and over. However, in *Happy Death Day 2U*, Tree is thrown back into the loop under new circumstances.

This time, the film reveals that the time loop was caused by a scientific experiment conducted by **Ryan** (Phi Vu), a fellow student at the university. When Ryan’s experiment goes wrong, Tree is once again trapped in the loop, but she soon realizes sheโ€™s now in an alternate dimension. In this new dimension, many things are different, including her relationships and who the killer is.

Tree must make a difficult choice: stay in the alternate dimension where her mother is still alive, or return to her original timeline, all while trying to figure out how to stop the killer and escape the loop for good. The film takes the time-loop concept to new levels, adding alternate dimensions, a complex emotional arc for Tree, and a more science fiction-based explanation for the loop itself.
