Tristan Thompson Doesn’t Want True to Be ‘Embarrassed’ by His Infidelities

Thompson opened up to different members of the Kardashian family in the candid episode

Tristan Thompson wants to be the man his daughter thinks he is. In a candid discussion with Kylie Jenner where the NBA star, 32, addresses the infidelities that ended his relationship with Khloé Kardashian, 39, Thompson explains that he wants to be a better person for his kids.

“That’s my motivation before anything,” he tells the 26-year-old Kylie Cosmetics founder during the latest episode of The Kardashians. “I never want my daughter to go to school and talk so great about me and a little kid come and be like, ‘Oh, your dad is like this,’ and she’ll be embarrassed.”

“That’ll break my heart because she views me in such a high regard,” he says of 5½-year-old True. “You want to just be a good influence and role model for them so they can be proud of you and say, ‘That’s my daddy.’ That’s the stuff that motivates me.”

“Aw, Tristan! You’re going to make me cry,” Jenner says, tearing up.

“I’m sorry, I’m not trying to. The three most important things in life taken away from me — basketball, my mom, my family — was all taken away from me in a year span. It’s the biggest wake-up call you can get in your life. So I try to right my wrongs as best I can while I’m here.”

In an episode airing last month, Thompson echoed the sentiment as he went on to talk about unlearning some behaviors that have been enforced on him as a professional athlete and cited his kids for wanting to make the change.

“It wasn’t until I really had to look at myself. I never had to hold myself accountable. We’re taught, ‘Be the man, do what you please, bros before hoes …’ ” he said. “You gotta just be your own man and don’t care what people think and don’t feel like you have to get validation from others.”

Turning his attention to his older two kids — True and Prince Oliver, who turns 7 next month — Thompson shared concerns about what they’ll learn about his shortcomings.

“True is understanding stuff and Prince understands things where they go to school and they have classmates. The last thing I ever want them to do is feel embarrassed that I’m their father,” he said.

Elsewhere in the season, Thompson praised Kardashian’s idea to have True’s 5th birthday celebration on his late mother’s birthday, the first since her death in January.

“It was my baby girl, little Tutu’s fifth birthday. It’s exciting to have all the cousins here and it’s my mom’s birthday today,” he said. “So I think it’s a good way of — you know, I’ve got my angel in heaven and my angel on earth, so it’s a special day for me and the family.”

“It was Khloé’s idea. She said, ‘Hey you know for your mom’s birthday, instead of it being a heavy day, why don’t we do True’s birthday party?’ Incorporate it in one, it means a lot.” he shared.

“I’ve loved every bit of today. The happiness and the balloons and everything just makes you happy. So I don’t know, maybe I just threw this party for myself, but I needed it. Whatever it was, I needed it.”
