One Piece: The Ending Of The Egghead Arc, Explained

The Egghead Island arc marked the beginning of the Final Saga of One Piece, and it did so in quite some style.

Fans were amazed to see this arc finally kickstart in an amazing fashion, taking them all over the world, all the while showcasing the adventures of Luffy and the Strawhat Pirates. This arc was certainly spectacular, with many fans even considering it to be one of the very best arcs in One Piece, while others came to the conclusion that this arc was somewhat lacking in terms of depth and flavor that other One Piece arcs, such as Wano, Whole Cake Island, and many others in the series have delivered.

However, as far as the opening arcs of big sagas go, Egghead is by far the very best that fans have witnessed. This arc now seems to have ended, which means fans can now break down what this arc was all about, what the goals were, and how it finally concluded.

The Straw Hats Arrive On Egghead Island After The War in Wano

  • The Log From Wano Took Luffy To Egghead
  • Kid And Killer Were Destroyed

The Straw Hat Pirates arrived on Egghead Island after leaving Wano Country. Upon leaving Wano, Kid, Luffy, and Law went three different ways. Kid arrived on Elbaf, where he was destroyed by Shanks and the Red-haired Pirates, while Law was on the way to Winner Island, where he was assaulted by Blackbeard and destroyed. Meanwhile, Luffy arrived on the island of the future, Egghead, where he met Vegapunk. Given that Egghead followed the future theme, fans knew that this would be an arc focused on technology, as well as many inventions made by Vegapunk over the years. That is precisely what Oda focused on in this arc, and right from the beginning, fans were introduced to concepts such as future islands, as well as the technology that existed long ago during the Void Century. Fans found out about Vegapunk’s creations, such as Punk Records, the Satellites, and, more importantly, the research that he did secretly on Poneglyphs.

The Yonko Straw Hat Luffy has barricaded himself on Egghead! – The Navy

As far as antagonists go, Egghead certainly had its fair share of powerful ones. In the opening act of this arc, fans got to see antagonists such as York, who had betrayed Vegapunk. However, later down the line, the Marines, and even one of the Elders showed up. Kizaru and Saturn served the role of primary antagonists for the vast majority of the arc, and in the final phase, the Five Elders took on this role, which made for an incredibly exciting battle.

When it comes to the Straw Hats, however, their only goal in this arc was to get to Vegapunk, and eventually secure an escape route from Egghead. Vagapunk asked for their protection and then, a battle against the Navy and the Straw Hat Pirates began. In that sense, Egghead was not a major arc, and there was not much to explore here, which sets it apart from most One Piece arcs.

The Goals On Egghead

  • Finding Out Information About The Void Century
  • Protecting Vegapunk And Securing Escape
  • Aiding Bonney
  • Escaping Egghead Successfully

On Egghead Island, the Straw Hat Pirates had various goals, some of which they successfully met and others that they failed. When they first arrived on Egghead, the primary goal was for them to find out information about the island as a whole, and Vegapunk’s advancements. Oda used this opportunity to tell the Strawhats about the Poneglyphs, and how they connect to advancements in terms of science, and of course, the Void Century. Fans found out about Ohara living through Saul, and Vegapunk carrying key information. At the same time, Oda made it clear that Vegapunk himself carried on the will of the people of Ohara and studied the Poneglyphs. This brings fans to the very next part of the conflict, which came through a battle against the Marines and the World Government.

Protecting Vegapunk And Escaping

Vagapunk knew quite clearly that he was going to be targeted by the Navy. This was simply because he had studied the Poneglyphs and done the unthinkable, which the World Government frowned upon. As such, they were out for his blood, and that is precisely why he sought protection from Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates.

As such, Egghead saw a massive war rage on the island, where Luffy tried his best to protect Vegapunk, but eventually failed. While Stella, the main Vegapunk, eventually died, his death led to a message starting, which formed the biggest part of the entire arc.

Finding Out The Information About The Void Century

Vagapunk revealed all his findings from his years of research, and he transmitted them to the entire world. He mentioned that the world of One Piece is going to sink once again and that in the past, the world was composed of giant continents that were sunk under the ocean due to a war that was fought around 800 years ago. He spoke of Joy Boy, his death, and the creation of Ancient Weapons, and ultimately tied it all together to the One Piece. According to him, the one who finds the One Piece will have the fate of the entire world in the palm of their hands.

Aiding Bonney

Jewelry Bonney, one of the members of the Worst Generation, was also a major part of the Egghead Island arc. She was key to this arc, as was the character of Kuma. Both of them were deeply linked to Egghead and Vegapunk at the same time. Bonney had her entire story explored, as did Kuma, which touched the fans.

Happy birthday, Bonney! – Kuma

It can be said that Kuma’s flashback was, by far, the very best part of this arc, as it explained a lot to the fans about the relationship he shared with Vegapunk, his daughter Bonney, and why he ended up becoming a Pacifista in the first place. The Straw Hat Pirates then took over the responsibility of helping Bonney, and together, they fought against the Government with the aim of successfully escaping.

Escaping Egghead

Finally, the ultimate goal of Egghead Island was to secure an escape route with Vegapunk, Bonney, and Kuma. While Stella died, Lilith, one of the Vegapunk satellites, managed to live. This essentially meant that Vegapunk was able to survive in a different body and escape from Egghead. At the same time, both Bonney and Kuma managed to survive Egghead as well and this was largely made possible due to the arrival of the Giant Pirates on Egghead. After combining their forces, they were able to carve out an escape route, and the final bit of help was provided by the Iron Giant, who was also a major part of this arc. Using his powers of Haki that was stored inside him by Joy Boy, he allowed the Straw Hat Pirates a moment’s respite and opened up a way for them to leave. With that, the Straw Hat Pirates left, the Iron Giant essentially died, and the major goal of this arc was officially met.

The End Of Egghead Island Sets Up Even Bigger Events for the Final Saga

Egghead Concludes With The Departure Of The Straw Hats from the Future Island After Emet’s Sacrifice

The Egghead Island arc came to an end with the escape of the Straw Hat Pirates. Of course, there are still going to be buffer chapters that will likely be included with this arc, but, the main part of the arc is essentially over. Fans might get to see two or three buffer chapters before Elbaf begins, and these will tackle news reports from all over the world. The vast majority of the Egghead Arc was centered around the Egghead Incident, which was Vegapunk’s message, and at the same time, Bonney’s story was at the core of this arc. Luffy and the Straw Hats found out bits about the past, and fans also got a proper glimpse at the abilities of the Elders and what they will be facing in the future.

Meanwhile, other individuals, such as Shanks, Blackbeard, Buggy, and even the likes of the new generation of Marines, along with Garp, were seen in action in this arc. Most importantly, Vegapunk set up the biggest players of the final act of One Piece in this arc, and this essentially means that Egghead has served as a way to kickstart a storm that is coming next.
