Devil Fruits have been a staple of the One Piece series for nearly three decades, but as the manga finally reaches the endgame, a surprising amount of superpowers have yet to be given a proper Devil Fruit.
Much to his credit, Eiichiro Oda doesn’t always go for the obvious route when coming up with creative ideas. However, with only a few major arcs presumably left, time is running out for certain Devil Fruits to make their appearance.
There are three different classifications for Devil Fruits in the One Piece series. Paramecia grants various abilities, Zoan lets users transform into animal hybrids, and Logia gives users the ability to become a natural element. Over the years, many popular suggestions have floated on message boards dedicated to the series. It remains to be seen if Oda introduces any of these particular ideas, whether it’s the main story or a non-canon movie.
10. Chi Chi no Mi (Blood-Blood)
Shonen Readers Probably Shouldn’t Expect Such a Power
One Piece is a shonen manga with a primary target audience of younger readers. While it does regularly deal with mature themes and brutal action sequences, there is a limit to how much blood can be shown. It’s a shonen, not a seinen, so the possibility of a Blood-Blood Devil Fruit is very low. However, the ability to manipulate blood like a Paramecia, or to even create and control it like a Logia, is a fun if not slightly nightmarish concept.
If, for whatever reason, Oda introduced the Blood-Blood Devil Fruit, there would have to be strict limitations, so it doesn’t break the story. A user shouldn’t be able to control another person’s blood, for example, but they could potentially direct its movement like water if blood were to leave their own body. It would be akin to Vlad King’s Blood Control Quirk in the My Hero Academia series. Due to its graphic nature, the power would have to be scaled back.
9. Hone Hone no Mi (Bone-Bone Fruit)
Bones Manipulation Has Offensive And Defensive Uses
The Bone-Bone Fruit is a fantastic concept for a shonen manga. It would definitely work best under the Paramecia category. Users have a variety of ways they could manipulate their bones, such as reshaping their skeleton or reinforcing their strength. If the logistics prove too difficult, since users would require secondary powers to move around their skin and muscles, they could always produce bones from their body and throw them instead.
One Piece has dealt with classic horror themes in the past. Thriller Bark would’ve been the perfect setting for the Bone-Bone Fruit, but that ship has sailed in more ways than just literally. There aren’t too many candidates left for this ghastly Devil Fruit, but there’s always potential for even minor characters to consume it. Bones have so many combative purposes, but for every strength, there has to be a potential weakness. One example could be the need to drink extra milk, which fits right in Oda’s irreverent writing style.
8. Kami Kami no Mi (Hair-Hair Fruit)
It’s a Fun and Silly Idea That Matches The Series’ Humor
One Piece often goes back and forth between silly and serious. Oda certainly loves to make readers laugh with their endless supply of jokes, funny character reactions, and completely ridiculous situations. It’s quite surprising that Oda has never given anybody the Hair-Hair Fruit yet. The ability to manipulate the user’s hair definitely has potential, especially if they sport comical hairstyles that Oda is particularly known for.
If the power were to ever turn up late in the game, there’s a good chance that it will belong to a female character with very long hair. More often than not, it’s always women that have this sort of power, such as Halbet Chevour from Black Clover or Flare Corona from Fairy Tale. For better or worse, Oda typically gives his female character stereotypically ”girly” abilities, but that doesn’t mean a Hair-Hair Fruit wouldn’t be fun to watch.
7. Kumo Kumo no Mi (Cloud-Cloud Fruit)
The Sky is The Limit For Cloud Manipulation
Nami can already manipulate weather via her Clima-Tact, so a Cloud-Cloud Fruit might seem redundant. However, similar power sets already exist within the series, most notably the Kilo-Kilo Fruit and the Ton-Ton Fruit. A few variations is all that’s needed to make a Cloud-Cloud Fruit viable in the One Piece series. For instance, the user could make vapor constructs for adaptive defense or even solidify them for transportation.
Cloud abilities don’t necessarily have to influence the weather, either, since they could just focus on clouds themselves. Users could even create large clouds as enemy combatants in the same way Cracker summons biscuit soldiers with his Devil Fruit. Oboro Shirakumo from My Hero Academia is another good example of how these powers would potentially work, as he could manipulate the overall density of clouds for various purposes.
6. Shio Shio no Mi (Salt-Salt Fruit)
Sodium Chloride is a Highly Underrated Superpower in Fiction
Salt has a wide range of uses that go beyond cooking. It’s a rarely seen power that lends itself well in the One Piece universe and wouldn’t feel out of place in Whole Cake Island. Depending on the salt and its intended application, it could either be used to dehydrate burns or further agitate wounds. Paramecia users could generate vast quantities to capture targets, while Logia users could harden their body or shift parts around to avoid damage.
There are logical weaknesses to salt that would make fights more dynamic. Water might dissolve the mineral, but it would also make it sticky. A chef would definitely realize the full potential of the Salt-Salt Fruit. While it’s unlikely to ever show up in the series, Oda does like to think outside the box with Devil Fruits, so this one captures the spirit of his thinking. Salt is a highly underrated power and not something that most people would ever think of.
5. Ryu Ryu no Mi, Model: Godzilla
Japan’s Most Famous Movie Creature is a Pop Cultural Icon
Mythical Zoan Devil Fruits have a lot of potential in the One Piece series. Oda draws inspiration from mythologies and famous works of literature. It’s perfectly feasible that he would also look in cinema, especially Japan’s most recognized symbol on the big screen. Only the strongest fighters deserve a Devil Fruit modeled after Godzilla, the King of Monsters. Their strength and durability would be as high as the skyscrapers that he destroys.
Godzilla also provides another unique super power that’s rarely touched upon in Oda’s work. Atomic breaths, nuclear pulses, and even magnetic auras would set Godzilla apart from every other fighter. Rare Mythical Zoan Devil Fruits typically grant users a secondary power anyway. Speaking of which, this subtype has become even more common in the end game, considering only the strongest characters will that remain.
4. Saru Saru no Mi, Model: King Kong
King Kong Rules Over The Mighty Jungle
King Kong is to the United States what Godzilla is to Japan. They are pop culture icons known for their immense size and strength. Interestingly, the One Piece series has yet to introduce a Zoan Devil Fruit modeled after monkeys. Zoan users of the common variety have seemingly been phased out in favor of myths and legends, so the next best thing is the King of Beasts. King Kong is a simple but strong creature that grants users incredibly strong arms, excellent grip power, and survival instincts.
It’s often speculated that Kong from the World Government would potentially have such a Devil Fruit. Besides the obvious correlation with his name, he also boasts some of the biggest arms ever seen in the entire series, and his very high status would indicate he’s only worthy of the highest caliber Devil Fruits. Whether or not he’ll ever play a larger role in the story is yet to be determined, but he should at least be comparable to Sengoku.
3. Ryu Ryu no Mi, Model: Tyrannosaurus
The Iconic T-Rex Has Yet to Appear in The Series
In a series where dinosaurs run rampant among Ancient Zoan Devil Fruit users, there is one surprising omission that is likely being saved for last. One Piece has yet to introduce a model for the most famed reptilian creature in the world. The famous Tyrannosaurus rex is particularly iconic for its massive jaw full of sharp teeth. A carnivorous predator near the very top of the food chain, the T-rex would be a great choice for an Ancient Zoan user.
Ever since the release of SBS Volume 109, many readers have speculated that Hanafuda already consumed a Devil Fruit modeled after the powerful T-rex, although it’s never been confirmed. The former Warlord goes by the nickname ”King of Lizards,” he collects Ancient Zoan Devil Fruits, and his name is a reference to a card game. Kaido’s crew mates have a playing card theme as well, and they have many dinosaur hybrids.
2. Kaze Kaze no Mi (Wind-Wind Fruit)
Only a Select Few Can Bring Forth Winds of Change
Logia Devil Fruits are extremely rare even now. With very few exceptions, most users are elite fighters since they have transformative bodies and take full control of a natural element. However, One Piece doesn’t have many possibilities left for a Logia Devil Fruit. Fire, earth, light, and darkness have already been shown, but wind is still conspicuously absent from that lineup. The special ability to create and control wind is extraordinarily useful.
Users could fly across long distances, blow away enemies with large gusts of wind, and even make tornadoes of various intensities. For several years, fans have speculated that revolutionary leader Monkey D. Dragon consumed the Wind-Wind Fruit, given his strong association with that natural element. However, there is always a possibility he could’ve eaten a Storm-Storm Fruit, or even a Zoan Devil Fruit modeled after a mythical Thunderbird, so it’s not a given just yet.
1. Mizu Mizu no Mi (Water-Water Fruit)
The Ultimate Devil Fruit Takes Control of its Biggest Weakness
Devil Fruit users have a long standing weakness to water. As soon as they are submerged, they will lose their power and become significantly weaker. There are logistical issues for a Logia Devil Fruit based on water, particularly if the user were to transform into the very element that weakens them. For this very reason, if One Piece does introduce a Water-Water Fruit at this late stage in the game, the only acceptable candidate would be someone like Imu, the true ruler of the world.
The ability to completely nullify Devil Fruit users by controlling vast amounts of water is very broken, yet it’s perfectly suitable for a potential end game villain. Imu spelled backwards is Umi, the Japanese word for ”sea,” and they are often compared to Umibozu from yokai mythology, due to their elongated and shadowy appearance. It’s now or never, so if someone like Imu doesn’t possess the Water-Water Fruit, then it’s likely nobody will.
