Finishes from Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah saw Liverpool begin their perfect 2024-25 Premier League campaign

Salah and Jota scored with two second-half goals, while Alisson gave his all to keep Liverpool’s goal untouched

Efforts to press the field in the second half helped “The Kop” win 2-0 in the opening match of the 2024/25 Premier League against Ipswich Town.

On the evening of August 17 (Hanoi time), at Portman Road, Ipswich faced Liverpool in the 2024/25 Premier League round. Liverpool had a difficult first half against a team playing in the top flight of the foggy country for the first time.

The visitors created many chances towards the Ipswich goal, but the league newcomers were also the ones who had the dangerous chances.

Ipswich Town, under the leadership of former MU coach Kieran McKenna, was considered a phenomenon in the English Championship last season.

Reality proved that the home team at Portman Road was not an easy opponent for Liverpool. They launched 4 shots towards “The Kop” goal in the first half (2 on target), while Liverpool only had 3 shots wide.

The two teams ended the first half with a 0-0 draw. In the first half, young talent Hutchinson dribbled past Liverpool’s defense at least twice to create space in front of Liverpool’s goal. Only the talent of goalkeeper Alisson saved the visitors.

New coach Slot has not really left a strong mark on the Red Devils of Merseyside’s playing style. However, the superior quality of personnel and the class of individuals still help Liverpool beat their opponents.

Jota opened the scoring for the port city team in the 64th minute, after a pass from Salah. Shortly after assisting Jota, the Egyptian continued to leave his mark with a chance in the 66th minute, putting Liverpool 2-0 up.

Salah has set a record for the most goals scored on the opening day of a Premier League season. The Egyptian international has scored nine goals in the opening seven games of the Premier League season since joining Liverpool in the summer of 2017.

Winning against a rookie opponent right on the away field, new coach Slot had a favorable start with Liverpool. Meanwhile, Ipswich Town played well in this match but started to feel the harshness of the Premier League.
