Lando Norris has expressed his frustration after being denied a crucial fastest lap point at the Singapore Grand Prix by VCARB’s Daniel Ricciardo. Norris, who had dominated the race from pole position to the checkered flag, was poised for a perfect weekend that could have significantly boosted his standing in the championship battle. However, a last-minute move by Ricciardo robbed him of the fastest lap point, leaving Norris with mixed emotions.
Norris was in strong form throughout the race, but Ricciardo pitted late, fitted fresh soft tires, and set the fastest lap on the final lap of the race. The Australian’s move took away a point that could become critical as the 2024 Formula 1 Drivers’ Championship narrows down between Norris and Max Verstappen.
Speaking after the race, Norris commented on the situation, saying, “Well done, Daniel. Nothing I can do, so good on him. I tried my best to get the fastest lap, but on hard tires at the end of the race, I can’t beat a guy on fresh softs. That’s just life.”

When asked whether it was fair for VCARB, a team with close ties to Red Bull, to ᵴtriƥ him of that important point, Norris remained diplomatic. “That’s how Formula 1 has always been. It’s been like this for as long as I can remember. It’s not something new,” Norris explained. “Sure, it’s a smart play by them, and I’m happy for Daniel.”
Despite his disappointment, Norris acknowledged that securing maximum points is critical as he continues to chase Verstappen in the championship. “It’s frustrating, of course, but we’ve been doing well recently, so I’m confident we can keep pushing.”
As the championship battle heats up, every point counts, and Norris’ calm response suggests he’s ready to take on whatever challenges come his way in the remaining races.
