Next year’s Oscars could see some of music’s biggest names put in the Best Supporting Actress category.
The 97th Academy Awards will be held on March 2, 2025, and there are already predictions as to which Hollywood It-girl will take home the coveted award.
Interestingly it could be a battle of the pop divas, as Lady Gaga, Selena Gomez and Ariana Grande are all said to be competing for the same spot.
According to ranked Variety Awards Circuit Predictions, all three have a chance at landing a Best Supporting Actress nomination, meaning they will likely campaign ahead of award season.
First up is Gomez, for her role as wife and mother Jessi Del Monte on Netflix’s musical drama, Emilia Pérez.

Poker Face hitmaker Lady Gaga, 38, previously won an Oscar for her 2023 hit Hold My Hand
The 32-year-old’s castmates include the likes of Karla Sofía Gascón, Zoe Saldaña, Édgar Ramírez and Adriana Paz.
The film follows ‘an underrated lawyer (Saldaña) working for a large law firm more interested in getting criminals out of jail than bringing them to justice, is hired by the leader of a criminal organization,’ per a Netflix press release.
‘You have a musical that is not a musical, an action movie that’s not an action movie, a drama that’s not a drama, a comedy that’s not a comedy. It is such a great gift, and I’m so proud to be part of it,’ Karla Sofía Gascón told the platform’s site.
Emilia Pérez will be released on the Netflix library on November 13 in the US, Canada, and the UK.
Meanwhile, Poker Face hitmaker Lady Gaga, 38 — who previously won an Oscar for her 2023 hit Hold My Hand — could be up for the award for her role as Lee, a version of Harley Quinn, in Warner Brother’s upcoming film Joker: Folie à Deux.
She stars alongside Joaquin Phoenix who will act as Joker, Zazzie Beetz, Harry Lawtey, Jacob Lofland and Brendan Gleeson.
Joker: Folie à Deux will hit theatres on October 4.
And Ariana Grande is predicted to be up for the sought after nomination for her role as Glinda in Universal Pictures’ upcoming musical film, Wicked.
The Dangerous Woman songstress, 31, shifted gears from her belting popstar persona to a Broadway-opera style of singing for the hotly anticipated project.
In the film adaptation of the hit Broadway musical, she stars alongside her boyfriend Ethan Slater, Cynthia Erivio, Jonathan Bailey and Peter Dinklage.
The musical-fantasy is directed by celebrity filmmaker Jon M. Chu and is a prequel to 1939’s The Wizard of Oz. It explores the Wicked Witch of the West’s (Erivo) close-knit relationship with Glinda the Good Witch (Grande) before Dorothy dropped in.

Wicked will be released in two parts with the first hitting theatres on November 22 and the second installment on November 21, 2025.
Other top contender’s for the Best Supporting Actress nomination include Selena’s Emilia Pérez co-star, Zoe Saldaña, for her role as lawyer Rita Moro Castro.
Other predictions include Tilda Swinton for The Room Next Door, Danielle Deadwyler for The Piano Lesson, Isabella Rossellini for Conclave and Monica Barbaro for A Complete Unknown.
Nominations will be voted on from January 8-12, 2025. The official Oscar nominations for Best Supporting Actress will be announced on January 17, 2025 — two months before the awards ceremony.
