Lando Norris Teases Max Verstappen After Red Bull’s Major Personnel Loss: “Everyone Wants to Join the Fastest Team!”

In the latest shake-up for Red Bull Racing, the team has suffered another blow as their head of race strategy, Will Courtenay, announced his departure to join McLaren as its sporting director. This follows the recent exits of Adrian Newey to Aston Martin and Jonathan Wheatley to Sauber/Audi. Courtenay, a key figure at Red Bull for over 20 years, will officially leave in mid-2026.

Upon hearing the news, McLaren driver Lando Norris couldn’t resist poking fun at his longtime friend and rival Max Verstappen. “I guess it’s only natural,” Norris quipped with a grin. “Everyone wants to join the fastest team, after all!”

Norris, who has been enjoying a strong season with McLaren, added humorously, “It’s good to see that people are recognizing where the real speed is. We’re just getting started!” His playful jab at Verstappen highlights the growing rivalry between Red Bull and McLaren as the latter continues to climb the ranks in Formula 1.

As McLaren strengthens its leadership with Courtenay’s arrival, the team’s principal, Andrea Stella, expressed excitement, stating, “We are delighted to welcome Will to McLaren. His experience and passion for motorsport will be invaluable as we push to challenge for wins and championships.”

Red Bull, on the other hand, wished Courtenay the best, stating that he would remain with the team until mid-2026 to help with the transition.
